2021 Aeronaut - 3 pack

Following the first vintage of the Aeronaut in 2019, 3 days before Christmas we were devastated by a grass fire. Although I was heartbroken with the damage to the property and the loss of the 2020 crop, it was fascinating to see the recovery in the vineyard in the weeks following.

With organic farming, herbicides, fungicides and repeated soil tilling are avoided, so weed management can be a battle. The fire caused the death of the original seed bank of weed species and gave way to more manageable grasses. Having more time at home from the 2020 lockdown, I pruned the full 4 acres on my own with a focus on recovery.

The resulting 2021 crop was tiny, but with perfect growing conditions the wine is an impressive return for the second release of The Aeronaut.​

The wine is complex and ageworthy with fruit definition. Black cherry, rhubarb and liquorice interplay with savoury notes of boot polish and bone marrow. The low yield gives concentrated fruit character which is balanced with fine acid and structural tannin.
